KU fans were taken for quite the ride this off-season. With talks of NCAA realignment into “super conferences”, they were led to believe that their school would be hung out to dry out in the Mountain West Conference, while rival schools like MU and Texas would be raking in huge TV dollars with the Big-10 and Pac-10 respectively. All of the NCAA could feel the vibrations of a major shift taking place, but KU fans seemed to be standing right on the fault line, and were beginning to question the direction in which their athletic programs were heading. But the realignment talks weren’t all that KU fans were going to have to endure this summer. There were the allegations swirling around the Athletic Director, Lew Perkins –who later announced his plans to resign sometime next year– their football team is in the middle of a rebuild, and their basketball team lost it’s three best players to the NBA. As if that weren’t enough to cause concern, it’s been rumored that prized recruit Josh Selby may not be eligible for the 2010-2011 campaign.

According to some of the media, it was certainly the “end of days” for KU athletics. KU fans were in desperate need of something to get excited about. Krizz Kaliko wanted to remind the country who the “kings of the Big 12” are, and dropped “Game On”, a new anthem that has KU fans across the country yelling “Rock Chalk Jayhawk!” months before the first home game at Allen Fieldhouse.
