Tri-City Weekly on Tech’s Tour, K.A.B.O.S.H., And More

Jun 14 2011

Tri-Weekly’s Myles Cochrane wrote an article on Tech N9ne to hype fans up for his upcoming show at the Mateel in Redway, California. From Tech’s family life to his K.A.B.O.S.H, Cochrane covers it all.

“Tech N9ne has sold more than a million albums worldwide. The wickedly-talented rapper’s 12th studio album “All 6’s and 7’s” just hit shelves last week and the new release’s 65-show tour fires into the Mateel Community Center in Redway on Tuesday, June 21.”

Like everyone else, the writer touches on the topic of Tech’s collaborations with artists like E-40, Chino Moreno and Stephen Carpenter of Deftones, Twista and Lil Wayne just to name a few.

“The beats just spoke to me and I had to go after whoever the beats spoke to,” Tech N9ne told Cochrane. “I’m lucky enough to have the respect from all of these guys and that they would even consider workin’ with a weirdo like myself. It’s all cohesive. It’s not like I just went out there for the biggest names — I went out for the guys that fit on my album. Guys that I adore lyrically and musically.”

As Cochrane began asking Mr. Yates about the future of Tech N9ne, he replied with K.A.B.O.S.H., his upcoming rock ‘n’ roll project. He even name drops artists like Eminem, Cee Lo Green, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, and System of a Down as people who he’d like to collaborate with.

“After Yates concludes this tour (‘All 6’s And 7’s’), he’ll work on putting out a new collaboration album titled ‘Strangeland’ and will then focus on a rock-influenced live-instrumentation album under the title K.A.B.O.S.H. with Strange Music all-stars and a band out of Austin called “Dirty Worms.”

Tech spoke some on the rock ‘n’ roll project, wanting fans to know he’s taking it very serious and wants to impress long time rock ‘n’ roll fans with his tunes.

“I don’t want (the K.A.B.O.S.H. project) to be the typical rapper-over-rock-tracks thing,” Yates said. “I want Lynyrd Skynyrd and Rush fans to be like, ‘that’s real rock music!’ I was brought up with rock too and I want that to shine through. That’s why it’s taken so long, because it has to be right — it cannot be a joke”

Cochrane goes on to explain the meaning behind Tech’s newest album’s title, All 6’s And 7’s, that it is a term used to describe a state of confusion or disarray.

Redway, California is definitely in for a treat according to Cochrane.

“Without a doubt, the show in Redway will be wild and crazy just like the tour title. Tech N9ne has found a way to garner mainstream attention without turning into a mainstream rapper, and hey — when it all comes down to it he’s just a well-intentioned, talented family man.”

Tech, being the family man that he is, ended the interview telling Cochrane how he is going to take his kids on a Disney Cruise at the end of his current tour.

Cochrane was able to get the many sides of Tech in this interview, even the family oriented side which is prominent in his track “Mama Nem” off of the All 6’s And 7’s album.
