Hopsin Speaks On 'Am I A Psycho?'No one could have predicted just how popular Tech N9ne’s “Am I A Psycho?” would go on to be. Enlisting mainstream star B.o.B and underground phenomenon Hopsin, the track proved to be one of the most memorable moments on Tech N9ne’s All 6’s And 7’s.

Now with the official music video wrapped, fans have created a buzz of immense proportions as they eagerly anticipate the world premiere. Following updates via Twitter, fans everywhere were given sneak peeks of the three emcees as they donned costumes modeled after some of the most recognizable serial killers in pop culture. Looking to dig up some new information on the crazed music video, we caught up with Hopsin and asked him to share some insight on the making of “Am I A Psycho?”.

You all flew down to Atlanta for the video, correct?

Yeah, we flew out to Atlanta. Me and my business partner Dame and everybody else that was in the video – Tech and B.o.B. It’s based off of a horror movie type thing. I play Jason, I’m not sure if I can give away who Tech and B.o.B play. I know there’s pictures posted of it, but they didn’t tell me if I could or couldn’t. I know there’s pictures of me already out of what I was wearing and stuff. We all played different serial killers in the video. We’re just going through our own little adventures (laughs). I don’t want to give away too much of it, you just gotta see.

Did you guys have any input or was the concept already done?

Oh, I didn’t have any input on this video. I just got there and it was already laid out. They told me what the concept was prior to getting there, but it was already laid out. I didn’t pick anything out for the video, they gave it to me.

Are you a big Jason fan?

Yeah, I’m a fan of all the horror movies. Jason, Freddy, Michael Myers, Chucky. Everything, I like horror movies.

Do you think you played a good Jason?

Yeah, I did. I mean, I was more playing myself kind of. It was definitely Hopsin. I wasn’t playing Jason, I mean I was wearing his outfit, but under the mask, when I’m rapping, it’s definitely Marcus Hopsin that came out. Which was suppose to happen. I think I played my character well.

Was this the first time you met B.o.B? Do you think you’ll work together again?

That was my first time meeting him, on the set of the video. We got along, he was a real cool dude. He was real cool. I hope I get to kick it with him again in the future.

I’m not sure, I mean it would be cool to work together. We didn’t discuss anything like that, but if it happens – it’s not anything that we discussed, so if it happens it will be just from linking up again.

Tech N9ne, B.o.B, And Hopsin On The Set Of "Am I A Psycho?"Tech N9ne, B.o.B, And Hopsin On The Set Of “Am I A Psycho?”

Who do you think looked the craziest between the three of you?

(Laughs) It would probably have to be between me and Tech, I’ll leave that up to the fans to decide. Everybody is pretty crazy, we all got our own individual crazy things about us. I wasn’t on the set when B.o.B was actually shooting his parts, so I didn’t get to see any of his footage. I’m not sure what his stuff looks like, but I was on the set when Tech was doing his. I’m not sure what the individual parts look like or who’s craziest, so I couldn’t tell you. I need to see the full video as well. I haven’t seen the full thing yet.

Tech N9ne actually tweeted something about you cutting your thumb on a chainsaw during the shoot. What happened?

I had a chainsaw in the video and I don’t know how, but I cut my thumb on it. It wasn’t super bloody or gory, I didn’t know I did it. I didn’t know until I got back on the trailer and one of the chicks who worked on the set was like, “Your thumb is bleeding.” I was like, “What?” I looked at it and was like “Holy shit.” A chunk of my thumb was missing. Not my actual thumb, but just like the skin where my fingerprint is. Just a little chunk, it looked like a little chunk was just taken out of my thumb. It grew back already. It really hurt, it stung really bad. It’s one of those cuts that doesn’t hurt until you find out you have it, you know?

If you could have directed the video, what would you have done differently?

I’d have to say normal life situations that go on. I already had my verse planned out in my head if I did direct it. I just put a little thought into it just in case. For my verse, I would have had me waking up in the morning and walking into the kitchen where my mom and dad are eating breakfast. I have a plate on the table and maybe I have like a little sister at the table as well. I walk in with like my boxers and a white tee and they’re all in their little morning clothes like a robe and everything parents would wear in the morning. Then I come in the kitchen and I look kinda crazy, like tweaked out, but not actually tweaking. Just zoned out. Then I would start my verse off, “Mom, Dad, I’m no longer the boy you’re used to seeing..” Then, somewhere when the verse speeds up, I would jump up on top of the kitchen table and start spilling the milk and all that. Just in their faces rapping my verse. Then I would have some other performance shot in the video as well where I looked a lot more like Hopsin. Just would probably go back and forth between those shots. Maybe a flashback of me hitting my head when I was seven years old and all that. That’s what I would have done.

You’ve been performing the song a lot lately, what’s that been like?

Yeah, I’ve been performing the song these past four or five shows. Everybody loves it, I’m glad. I should have started doing it a lot sooner. Everybody sings along, they all know my verse. Hopefully one day Tech, B.o.B, and myself can all be on stage performing it. I’m sure it will happen sooner or later.

Anything you have coming up that you would like our fans to know about?

The Funk Volume contest is out right now. You can sign up for that at MyFunkVolume.com. There’s instructions and all that on the homepage. I also have a new single that will be dropping early next month called “Hop Madness”. I’ll be shooting that music video later this month. I acutally have a lot of fans from LA that will participate the video, so it’s going to be really fun shooting the video. SwizZz and Dizzy Wright will be in the video as well. Later this month, I have two shows with Machine Gun Kelly. I’m looking forward to that, I’ve been wanting to meet that guy for the longest. That should be really cool. I’m also doing SXSW in a couple months down in Texas.
