Since their signing to Strange Music in 2011, Miami’s ¡MAYDAY! has been busy recording new music and touring the country. Their first outing on the All 6’s And 7’s Tour took them across the U.S. for over 80 shows. Now, Tech N9ne’s “Hostile Takeover 2012” Tour is taking the group on the road for the longest tour in rap history.
Coming off the release of Take Me To Your Leader, ¡MAYDAY! recently spoke with AllHipHop.com to discuss the making of the album as well as Strange Music and what it takes to balance personal lives with the demands of a musical career.
Speaking on their decision to sign with Strange Music, Bernz offered up some insight into the deal:
“The number one factor is Tech N9ne. We’ve looked at everything he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the model that he’s been able to build, along with Travis [O’Guin] and the rest of Strange Music. It just seemed like the perfect fit for us. In terms of the way that we are, we are also a self-contained, do-it-yourself organization. So, it matches very well, us and Strange Music. Tech was just—he also came to us as a fan. The first time I met Tech, he had my CD in his hand. He wanted us to sign it. That was a really great experience. It was never your traditional sleazy-record-company-guy kind of story that you hear about. It was something that was really organic.”
¡MAYDAY! also went on to discuss Take Me To Your Leader, the demands of parenthood and family life, and their love of surprise guest features. Fans of Brotha Lynch Hung may also catch a nice surprise as Plex Luthor confirmed work with the West Coast veteran. Still riding high on the first week of release for Take Me To Your Leader, ¡MAYDAY! is aiming for a big year with Strange Music.
