It’s hard to believe it’s been damn near 3 years since the beginning of Brotha Lynch Hung’s Coathanga Strangla trilogy, and even harder to believe that we’re about to witness the conclusion!

Lately we’ve been listening to the first two albums in the trilogy Dinner And A Movie and Coathanga Strangla to get ready for the new album, and we’ve developed a new-found appreciation for how Lynch utilizes guest features (or co-stars in this case).

Let’s start by taking a look at the features on Dinner And A Movie. You’ve got the likes of Snoop Dogg, Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, and more, and they ALL play their own little part in the Coathanga Strangla saga.

One track that stands out in particular is “Colostomy Bag” featuring C-Lim and G-Macc, a G-funk throwback in which C-Lim and G-Macc take turns representing the Coathanga Strangla’s conscience. The frantic chorus serves as a perfect contrast to Lynch’s nonchalant descriptions of smoking PCP cigarettes and… y’know, murdering people.

Brotha Lynch also relies heavily on visual storytelling to accompany his already cinematic tracks, so of course there’s a chilling video to accompany the already shiver-inducing verses on “Colostomy Bag”

Brotha Lynch Hung has an awesome ability to pick features that will also add a dimension to the story he’s trying to tell. The title of “co-star” on the track list makes complete sense, because it really is as though these emcees are lyrically acting in a movie, adding subtext and extra layers and dope-as-shit verses simultaneously.

If you’re going to be a feature on a Lynch album, you better be ready to rap AND act, as many emcees have done in his numerous skits. Lynch has seamlessly woven his real life into the story of the Coathanga Strangla and used fellow elite emcees to completely submerge listeners into his twisted story.

Coathanga Strangla is no different in this respect. Each guest feature is carefully premeditated and actually fits into the saga of the Coathanga Strangla in a way that leaves listeners wondering just how much of this concept is actually fictional.

“Taking Online Orders” featuring Tech N9ne is another great example of Lynch knowing exactly where to place features. Lynch is as murderous as ever over a drawn out, incredibly cinematic beat from Seven, and fellow fictional killer Tech N9ne’s triple-time flow adds a perfected sense of frenetic energy to the end of the track.

With Lynch’s upcoming album Mannibalector, a few HUGE guest features have been announced. With Yelawolf and Hopsin having been confirmed to appear on Mannibalector, we’re left to wonder what role these two will play in the conclusion of the trilogy. Will Yela and Hop have what it takes to not only come with a dope verse, but fit in and add to the story Brotha Lynch Hung has so carefully crafted over the last 3 years?

As the ancipation of these features grows and the release date for Mannibalector nears, we have a feeling you’re all going to be pleasantly surprised.
