Tech N9ne Throwback

Here’s a little Throwback Thursday action of Tech N9ne, red spiked hair and all, doing his thing from back in the day.

After the release of Absolute Power, Tech N9ne moved from KC to LA and talks about the move in this Turnpike interview and performance series. Turnpike is a Lawrence, Kansas show on lawrence.com that highlights local and touring artists that come through the college town (University of Kansas).

In this series of clips, Tech N9ne talks about the move to LA, why he did it (availability being the main reason) and performs an awesome homecoming set in front of thousands of adoring, hometown fans at The Granada Theater in Lawrence, Kansas. Songs that are rarely (if ever) seen performed today get their shine: “Beef”, “Sinister Tech” and “Here Comes Tecca Nina” just to name a few.

You’ll notice the differences between then and now: the uniform-less Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko and Kutt Calhoun, the emphasis on why it’s important to be in LA as opposed to “we can do it ourselves” mentality of now and the limited song selection that Tech N9ne had to choose from (as opposed to now being 13 albums deep worth of material).

The series of clips is a staggering time capsule that further highlights the truths we all know now: Tech really has gotten better with age and that Strange Music’s “Fuck The Industry” motto was always an evolving mentality that still grows to this day.
