The stage is set for a historical occasion unlike any that hip hop has ever seen. Rob Prior painting live on stage while Tech N9ne performs his most intricate set to date for his hometown crowd. On October 30, 2013 it all goes down at The Midland Theatre.

While the two artists have been involved in almost every facet if their craft, this will be something entirely new to both of them, Rob Prior especially. Not only has the renowned comic book artist never done a painting under these circumstances, he’s also never seen a Tech N9ne show: “I don’t even know what to expect,” Rob says, “Because everybody’s always said he’s a beast on stage. I’ve gotten to know him just as Tech, just as a friend of mine, and he’s got these great, crazy ideas so I can’t even imagine what that’s going to equate to on stage. I can’t even fucking imagine it.”

Prior isn’t the only one who has no idea what he’s in for, as Tech N9ne explains: “When he was at Strangeland Studios doing that first portrait for us in Travis’s office, he needed the music to make that come out. Just imagine what energy he’s going to feel from the Technicians in Kansas City at The Midland. He’s probably going to go bonkers. I don’t know what’s going to come out on that canvas.”

The off-the-wall idea came from discussions between Tech N9ne, Strange Music CEO Travis O’Guin and Rob Prior, whom Tech N9ne says is a kindred spirit. “We’re both crazy and both have a wonderful imagination and we have no boundaries. It’s just doing what you feel. I found a kindred spirit. That’s crazy! We did the gathering of the Juggalos and drove right to comic con to meet with him. I was never bored for one moment.” The idea of Rob Prior painting live on stage during Tech’s homecoming show on The Something Else Tour stuck. The rest has yet to be determined, but as Rob Prior says, will be historic, whatever comes of it:

“This is an event that I think is going to change some things,” Rob exclaims. “If I was going to convince you to go to the show I’d tell you this, you have no idea what you’re going to see because the painting that I’m going to do is going to be something completely out of this world and it’s going to be from Tech’s mind and my mind. And this is going to be one of those things to where I don’t know how many times I’m going to be doing this and I don’t know how many times Tech is ever going to have this done, but this is one of those once-in-a-great-while things that, if it works, we’ll do it again. But with my schedule and Tech’s schedule it might not ever happen again. I don’t know, but this is going to be one of those things that’s going to be magic. It’s going to be magic in the making.”
