‘Rock Yo Head!’ – 5 Metal Vocalists Perfect For A Tech N9ne Collab

Published: November 26, 2012 in Tech N9ne by

Tech N9ne and Sid Wilson

It’s no surprise that the Kansas City King is an avid fan of metal. He’s mentioned numerous times his love for bands such as Avenged Sevenfold, and has been caught sporting Black Sabbath, Slipknot, and System of a Down tees.

With Tech recently venturing back into the dark side with Boiling Point, we decided to put together a short list of metal vocalists that we felt would be perfect for a collaboration with the Nina.

Randy Blythe (Lamb of God)
5. Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God)

Randy Blythe has some of the most unique vocals in metal, so we felt he would be perfect for an intense collaboration with one of the most unique artists in hip hop. Randy’s terrifying growls and piercing high screams give him an almost demonic sound that could not only darken any song, but amp it up at the same time. With Tech often dabbling in the hard rock area, this collaboration could send a hardcore N9ne track through the roof.

M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)

4. M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold)

Another collaboration that everyone, including Tech, would love to see is with Avenged Sevenfold. This one is easier to imagine as lead vocalist M. Shadows and lead guitarist Synyster Gates were recently featured on MGK’s debut album, Lace Up. Mixing someone like M. Shadows with Tech N9ne could be a recipe for greatness. M. Shadows can keep it catchy with his singing, but still throw in those vicious screams that would make a Tech track more explosive than anything hip hop has ever seen.

Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine)

3. Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine)

Zack de la Rocha is not your average hard rock vocalist, which is why just about anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock all their lives can recognize his voice. The combination of the energetic delivery of a metal frontman and the flow and rhyme-schemes of a rapper is what makes de la Rocha such a stand-out vocalist. Imagine Tech and Zack trading bars over a bangin’ guitar infused beat!

Corey Taylor (Slipknot)
2. Corey Taylor (Slipknot)

Fans may know Slipknot as pioneers of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, but also as one of Tech N9ne’s favorite bands. Fans also know that Tech has been pushing for a Slipknot collaboration for a long time, and almost succeeded in getting Corey Taylor on “Killing You”. The Slipknot frontman’s ability to produce both chilling melodies, hardcore vocals, and the occasional rap verse gives him some serious flexibility when it comes to a Tech N9ne collaboration, and it’s something we’d all love to see.

Serj Tankian (System Of A Down)

1. Serj Tankian (System Of A Down)

Tech has expressed multiple times his love for System of a Down, most recently with his entertaining cover of “Aerials”. One of the most distinctive aspects to System of a Down’s sound is the haunting vocals of Serj Tankian. Known for his powerful voice, experimentation, impressive range, and the ability to switch intensities in an instant, the possibilities of what Serj can bring to the Strange table are endless. It’s safe to say that this collaboration would be nothing short of epic.

All those would be badass plus; Korn, Marilyn Manson, Deftones (again), Rammstein, Dope, Disturbed, Lacuna Coil.

  • say it with me RANDY RANDY RANDY!!!!! if not corey works…they have true metal voices..please Tech more metal projects

  • seriously, i think any fan would be happy with any one of these collabs!!!!! But you see tech rockin that slipknot shirt in a lot of pics on fb ha.

  • Logan

Corey Taylor would work perfect. But a collab with Serj Tankian would be very impressive and hold great value in a musical challenge that will be greatly anticipated as something grand

  • Logan

Would be most epic, every collab of jonathan davis and any rap artist has been a huge hit!!, recomend this above my own comment

  • Randy Blythe and Tech would be sick as fuck!

  • milo

Silly erna from gsmack would be good

  • milo

  • Jenn

how you gonna give me all these great men to collab with and make me choose?!?!?!?!?!? not fair. i say all of them. they all have a different sound and it would be amazing to see what each one would be like on their own individual song with the ninna. 😀

  • Corey or Zack,

  • paco

trent reznor(nine inch nails)/ wayne static(static-x)/maynard(tool)/Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus/GWAR) but out of the five above i’d go with rage against the machine

  • SykoJon

All of the above would be amazing but why stop there? Be as brutal as possible and get as many metal vocalists you can to make an epic album!

  • Mark Hunter from Chimaira has already expressed his interest in a Collab with you man. *@chimairamark Would you ever be interested in doing a song with @TechN9ne? he being a big fan of metal too.* *@Inksmith904 @TechN9ne absolutely*

  • Jonathan Davis, chad gray, Phil Anselmo,

  • Elisa

    Corey Taylor<3

  • Curtis

Honestly they all sound good, but when I read Zack De La Rocha I literally went “oooooo…” That would be awesome because they both go at it so hard. It could be a really heavy song. But when you think about it from a purely musical standpoint, and what would be the most interesting, I think Serj is the best choice.

  • changed my mind…whole album with all of them and a few mentioned below…..

  • Austin

    Chester Bennington from Linkin Park.

  • Priest

^This. Ivan Moody’s voice is freaking insane. I would love to see a Tech/Ivan Collab.

  • Aron

Zach de la rocha was probably the best one I saw but phil anselmo of pantera/down is the way to go definitely

  • I’d like to hear what he could do with Morgan from Kittie. Ref: “Feel Good” by (hed) PE feat. Serj and Morgan.

  • Daron Malakian

  • Keeeeff

ALL FIVE OF THEM!!! Or just corey taylor hahaha

  • Corey Taylor, Chad Gray, Ivan Moody, David Draiman

  • Str8Maniac

Can’t choose just one of those. An album with all of those and more with Tech would be sick as fuck. Something like Kabosh.

  • Keeeeff

Completely unrelated but kali and cee lo greene collab! Pleeeaaaassssse!!!

  • I Love em all but Id def go wit zack from ratm for a tech callab. That shitd be so sick!

    Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter

  • Mumford and Sons, lol……that would be a slapper……on a more serious note…rock wise i would love to hear tech mesh with chevelle, and rap wise im still awaiting a DMX and Tech-N9ne track eversense i noticed both there album covers next to eachother in one of my CD case’s and thought to my self…” why the fuck haven’t they made a track together yet?” both are on the darker side of rap, both have hella emotion, both had trauma in their lives, both love the color red, and both of em are sick as fuck…WTF???? and another one for the rock colab, more of just a manifest destiny colab would have to be……TechN9neInchNails…….Tech and Trent Rez……why the fuck have they not linked up yet together yet either, hell even there names form together…..come on tech tighten up, u don’t need too ask around for the answer to this question….it is and always has been..:..N.I.N, well either them or Mumford and Sons….the choice is obvious……this has been a quick service announcement from…::..d0ubley0ube…WB…..2012′

  • Jonathan Davis or Corey Taylor, thats enuff for me.

  • Jamey Jasta, Otep Shamaya, Rob Zombie

  • 5 metal vocalists…hmm… Jon Davis, Serj Tankian, Ville Valo, James Hetfield, Ozzy Osbourne. Those would be my 5.

  • Stevi Wonda

Tech should do a longer length song with all of them cause in my opinion you cant just pick one of these awesome bands!!

  • None of these… You need to get Either one of two people. Elias Soriano from Nonpoint or J. Loren Wince from Hurt. I have been listening to both of these guys for a very long time now as well i have been listing to Tech maybe longer. Tech doesn’t need a Huge name like Corey or Da la Rocha .He need someone that will sit down with him and go on tour make special appearances maybe an acoustics set ( How awesome would that be ). It is time for Tech to emerge even further as one of the most under rated artist of our generation. I think that either Elias or Loren would do this.

  • Tinners

    Zack de la Rocha

  • turtle

howard jones from killswitch engage…. hey tech you should also do a smokin song for all the stoners xD…

  • It’s too bad Peter Steele of Type O Negative passed away, that evil dark voice singing the hook on a K.O.D track would have been epic

  • man i gotta say serj or zack.

  • adam

How long ago was this? I love chimaira

  • A song from Tech and Amy Lee of Evanescence would be awesome!

  • M Shadows, Zack de la Rocha and Corey Taylor.

  • September 24th I asked him the question above and that was his reply.

  • adam

    Dope, thanks for sharing that.

  • Jasny

    corey fuckin taylor!

  • @Inksmith904 @TechN9ne I’d be down in an instant

  • adam

    Good looks!

  • Wish Tech would take a look at Chimaira and Mark Hunter. I understand they are not “huge” like some of the others on the list. But they are a lot like Tech. They have tried the major label game, went to independent labels like Ferret. Lost every member of the band minus Mark. Up and Down but they still grind out music and tour. Every cd is a beast very much like Tech.

  • adam
  • Thanks buddy. That made my day. After losing my job this editorial made me happy as hell.

  • bushbob

    cory taylor or m shadows

  • Waylon from Mushroomhead and/or J-Mann formerly of Mushroomhead. I would fly to KC to see a Mushroom/Tech show. NO DOUBT.

  • ^^^ J. Lore Wince would be sick. Hurt is such an underrated band. I love all of their stuff, albeit the older stuff more.

  • damn Otep would be siiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!!!!!!

  • tech should collab with both M Shadows & Serj Tankian

  • Chino Moreno from Deftones with Tech will kill it! I know they did a song already but I feel that putting some of Moreno’s screams and some riffage from Stephen Carpenter can get that dark but upbeat vibe Tech N9ne would just kill.

  • mark silva jr

seja tankian or zack de la rocha but seja tankian would be 1st choice

  • mark silva jr

but wont lie jonathan davis would be bad ass too

  • cory taylor

    Cory taylor

  • Adam

  • Jason

Any of these, or Jonathan Davis, Tim Lambesis, or Chris Fronzak. That dude scream-raps and is a beat, and i’m certain would gladly be down for it.

  • randomdude

or maybe Jacoby Shaddix from Papa Roach? Papa Roach even suggested Tech & Strange as good music to listen to on twitter/facebook lately

  • dani filth CoF, ivan moody from FFDP, corey taylor ofc, randy blythe, petri lindroos from Ensiferum

  • InFamouz

My top 5 would be Corey Taylor. Jeffrey Nothing and Waylon Reavis from Mushroomhead, Sully Erna from Godsmack, Serj Tankian, and Shaun Morgan from Seether

  • darkprophet37

Chad gray…mudvayne/hell yeah…or aaron lewis staind but more like the mudshovel type vocals…

  • SERJ TANKIAN, his vocal is exotic unlike any other metal vocalist

  • Serj Tankian

  • Serj Tankian

  • ash

zak’s lost all his anger, a serj collab would be sick i had the opportunity of seeing SOAD live earlier this year and they were as good as they’ve ever been!

  • Slipknot

  • Heather

Serj or Corey Taylor definitely!! I can’t choose between them lol

  • guy with face

    FINALLY one i agree with!

  • J.Phatts

    Zack de la Rocha!!!

  • SERJ!!!

  • Tech should DEFF do the colab with Mark from Chimaira, David Draiman, John Davis, Serj, Corey Taylor, Randy when he’s completely free from the Czech’s, he should just make a metal album featuring top metal performers

  • Tim L.

De la Rocha for sure! That would be amazing.

  • cjhrannie

Elias Soriano from nonpoint. Best Colab for tech. M shadows would not work. His style of vocals wouldn’t compliment tech. Elias would though

  • hahahaha all of the above.

  • cjhrannie

Spouting out your favorite metal vocalist doesn’t mean he’s gonna be good for tech. Randy Blythe would make a tech song sound like shit. It’s like saying the vocalist from dying fetus would be perfect. Cmon people get real

  • Vince

Jonathan Davis for sure! And David Draiman!
Maybe a song with Fred Durst can be awesome too!

  • We have a ton of talent in the KC metal scene i think Tech should work with some local guys. Hell im a metal vocalist id be down to jam with techa nina!!!!

  • any time I hear cross over music” it gives me new it.. a little tip for the people not familiar with Metal music?. there is only one guy who sings in a metal band in that line up…all of them are great…only had time to listen to T9 for a few days now.,,.been too busy in my own world,, i should have studied this rapper “from my home town “years ago..he is great in his own right…. probably come up with something brand new..change music forever…just my thoughts..I went to grade school at 34th and Gilliam rd. .kcmo. keep putting k.c. on the map…it helps us all… grateful… ..

  • cool novelty. ..I am not a fan of the dark metal., i played that ..done that.. 30 years ago.. you have the power with the beat, study Iron Maiden…they make 200 million a year….here is my pick…Sully Erna ..GODSMACK…dark metal has a dark fan base….heavy metal and rap have the entire world …billions brother !!!!

  • will

    Me William feeley

  • creativity??? think out side the box’ I thought rap, hip hop was about something else i guess.. I just through Sully (Godsmack) out there because he is also a drummer..damn good too. , he knows how to keep it simple ‘ yet’ become a powerful force…Tech n9ne. with his style weaving through? I thought it was about the flow, the cadence..the beat !!! I also thought the Nine inch nail comment was bad ass…your not mixing ..walk this way with Run DMC…..creativity starts over there and ends up with shit that will blow everyone’s mind..look at all the fckn ideas flowing from this…beautiful….epic? all these comments…!!! hello travis” C.EO Strange music. you said” we dont do metal ..only rap..hip reply. i understand smart rule for a company. stick to one thing’ do it well. joke” .I dont want to be “Living color ” with the wrong drummer…lol….thanks for taking the time to talk ..that was very cool of said ya had a reply…yes! not THE DRUMMER !! .dude? i was just there to deliver the msg…whats coming!! .if there was a drum kit at that moment and a metal singer? .you know….lets see how far the “Hollywood undead” go …

  • There just needs to be a K.A.B.O.S.H. EP!! It doens’t even have to be a full length album, j
ust an EP, I just want to hear Tech do songs with some of these guys!! They would be so dope!! WHOOP WHOOP!!

  • Sean

Tim Lambesis from As I lay Dying or Winston McCall from Parkway Drive.

  • He should get with Fronz from Attila

  • Ben Beal
