Jul 20 2011

Blurring the lines between musical genres, will.i.am has built a career on walking a different path. His work with the Grammy award winning The Black Eyed Peas has earned him a spot in popular mainstream culture, and thanks to his futuristic production, his work can be heard in nearly every nightclub worldwide.

Initially signed to Ruthless Records, will.i.am made his debut on Eazy-E’s 5150: Home 4 Tha Sick. Following his departure from the label in 1995, will.i.am formed the group that would later become The Black Eyed Peas. With his new group, will.i.am experienced mainstream success in the late-90’s to early-2000’s. Mixing hip hop with pop and electronic dance music, The Black Eyed Peas would go on to chart some of the decade’s biggest hits and sell over 56 million albums. Gigantic singles like “My Humps” and “Boom Boom Pow” have turned the group into a dancefloor favorite, further cementing their success with radio.

will.i.am’s success with The Black Eyed Peas allowed him to explore a diverse solo career that has included singing, producing, acting, and songwriting. will.i.am’s incredible career as a producer has included crafting hits for stars like Game, Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, and even Michael Jackson. Three solo albums and movie roles in films like X-Men Origins: Wolverine have kept the singer/producer in the public eye.

For Jay Rock’s Follow Me Home, Will.i.am lends his soulful touch to the hit single “All My Life”. Leaving the electronic fetish at home, Will.i.am provides a very heartwarming hook over the jazzy feel good production. Joined by Lil Wayne and Jay Rock, his appearance is brief, but absolutely catches listeners in a calming embrace. Will.i.am’s voice gives Jay’s single an added boost of emotion to really take fans back to his neighborhood.

Adding yet another heavyweight name to the list, Follow Me Home is shaping up to be this summer’s classic album.
