Hopsin Brings The ‘Raw Talk’ To ‘Rollin’ Stone’

As one of the hottest commodities on the indie scene, Hopsin has risen through the ranks to achieve the kind of success that normally eludes emcees not supported by a major label. A member of XXL‘s 2012 Freshmen class, Hopsin became a familiar name to Strange Music fans after his appearance on the highly successful “Am I A Psycho?” from Tech N9ne’s All 6’s And 7’s album.

Still blazing his own path with Funk Volume, Hopsin continues to be a shining example of the indie blueprint. It’s no surprise then that Strange Music’s Stevie Stone tapped the brash emcee, along with labelmate SwizZz, to appear on the recklessly banging “Raw Talk” from Rollin’ Stone.

Although the collaboration will mark the first time the two emcees trade bars on Strange Music, it’s not the first time they have crossed paths as Stevie Stone recently recalled:

“Me and Hopsin used to be on the same label when we was with Ruthless. We had been waiting to do a record for a while. We had planned on doing a record for a while. We did a dope record for the album called ‘Raw Talk’.”

The result was a loud, unapologetic and absolutely monstrous track that feeds off the “F*ck You” attitude underground music is so revered for. “Raw Talk” is a standout on Stevie Stone’s Strange Music debut, and will hold a few surprises for longtime Funk Volume fans as Hopsin opted for a different flow, something that even Stevie Stone was impressed by:

“It’s raw, so raw that it’s what I felt, like I gotta do some raw talk stuff on here. Who else better to get if you’re talking about being raw – Hopsin. It actually came out just like that too. So I sent it over, SwizZz and Hop, they blessed it – raped the beat. I raped the beat and that’s what it is.”
