When it came to inspiration for Rollin’ Stone, Stevie Stone didn’t have to look far. His outing on the All 6’s And 7’s Tour combined with his experiences learning under Tech N9ne gave him all the material he needed for his debut Strange Music album.
HipHopDX.com caught up with Stevie Stone on the day of his official album release to see how he was holding up on the Hostile Takeover 2012 Tour and to get a closer look at what it’s been like to work so closely with Tech N9ne.
Reflecting on the impact Tech N9ne had has on him, Stevie Stone spoke on his relationship with the Strange Music general:
My first show ever was with Tech so he was one of my biggest inspirations that I was able to see young and coming up and see what he was doing. Even before I even met him he was one of my favorite artists. So I started opening up for him, after that first show and to see that as a blueprint on what they were doing and watching it grow so he’s definitely one of my inspirations and someone I’ve always looked up to and has always been a mentor. He was the guy that I got to see and to see how to do this thing and learn from and how the game is.
The release of Rollin’ Stone may be a time of celebration for Stevie Stone, but he insists that he is far from done with his work:
I’ve got an album to promote now, I’ve got an album to sell so it’s not no time to sit back and relax, it’s like I said, I’m climbing this ladder and we gotta keep going, you know what I mean?
