If you have ever experienced one of Tech N9ne’s live shows or are a fan of his music at any level, you are probably familiar with his intricate face paint.

Throughout Tech N9ne’s extensive career, he has hopped on stages across the globe with artists from multiple genres, majority of the time having a different, unique outfit and variation of face paint. Where does the face paint come from? In his recent interview with with Unique Access‘s Myth’s Exposed series, the Kansas City native gives us the details.

I was dancing, but being a hype man for Tony Roma. I noticed when I was out there with that face paint, it was different from when I didn’t have it on when I was on stage. I felt more free to do what ever I wanted to do or say whatever I wanted to say. As time went on, it started to feel like a shield.
