¡Mayday! Signs To Strange Music

Apr 11 2011

April 18, 2011 (Los Angeles, CA) The call of ¡Mayday! has been answered. Florida-born hip-hop group ¡Mayday! and Kansas City-based Strange Music have inked a deal that brings the group to the roster of hip-hop’s hottest label. When the members of !Mayday! got the news that they are officially Strange’s newest act, they quickly broke out the ceremonial bottle of Flor de Caña rum that ¡Mayday! taps “every time something cool happens to this band.”

“The timing couldn’t be any better,” says Strange Music CEO Travis O’Guin. “Tech N9ne is going to go out on the All 6’s and 7’s Tour. This will be the largest tour we’ve ever put together: 82 shows in 85 days. The first 14 shows are in Canada, the rest are in the US. ¡Mayday! will be joining Tech on that tour in all the US dates.”

With their intriguing grasp of hip-hop, rock and electronic music, ¡Mayday! are a cosmopolitan musical unit. As Tech N9ne says: “When I first listened to ¡Mayday! I was like damn, this shit is rolling!” Former mtvU Freshmen Five picks, ¡Mayday! have recorded with Devin the Dude, Lil Wayne, Cee-Lo, shared stages with Daft Punk, Red and Method Man, and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and have been heard on the TV shows Entourage and Lincoln Heights. The crew — Wrekonize and Bernz (vocals), Plex Luthor (guitar/keys/production), Gianni Cash (bass/keys), L.T. Hopkins (drums) and NonMS (percussion) — broke big when their track “Groundhog Day” featuring Cee-Lo Green received over two million YouTube views within two days, setting a record without any MTV rotation. That self-started success makes ¡Mayday! a perfect fit for the independent hustle of Strange Music.

“There is no better set-up for the introduction of ¡Mayday! signing to Strange then putting them right into our system,” says O’Guin with a grin. “Welcome, ¡Mayday! Get ready to go!”

As their new track “Tango In Tunisia” lights up the hip-hop blogs, ¡Mayday! joins Strange Music family members Krizz Kaliko, Kutt Calhoun, Big Scoob, Stevie Stone and Jay Rock on Tech N9ne’s All 6’s and 7’s Tour, beginning in May.
