Unfortunately, even after decades of social progress, racism still rears its ugly head in the everyday fabric of American society. It’s a notable theme in the latest music video from MURS, “Mi Corazon”.

In an interview with MTV.com, MURS talks about the racism that he faced growing up and the taboo of interracial dating that is so prominently displayed in the video for “Mi Corazon”.

“We would dance with Mexican girls or El Salvadorian girls, and when the lights came on, they’d act like they didn’t know us,” the South Central native told MTV News. “Because their cousins would kill us or their brothers would f—k us up, so there was always that tension.”
