It’s all smiles for Strange Music this week.
Just over the weekend, Tech N9ne, ¡MAYDAY!, Kendrick Lamar, and Kendall Morgan were blessed with the news that their hit single, “Fragile” has officially gone gold, but the fun does not stop there. Although it reached its quota earlier this summer, “Hood Go Crazy” ft. 2 Chainz & B.o.B. is also now a member of the Gold Club.
Although this is Tech N9ne’s third gold record, this is ¡MAYDAY!’s first. To say that Wrekonize is ecstatic is an understatement.
Been waiting to talk to @therealtechn9ne until I mention it but we just got off the phone and I can officially say WE JUST GOT OUR FIRST GOLD RECORD. #Fragile is CERTIFIED GOLD. I've thought multiple times I may never see a plaque and tried to just ignore that thought and keep it moving. But hard work and perseverance rewarded me with a surprise!!! I'm honored and humbled and so fucking happy I can't describe it to you!!!! Thank you for supporting this beautiful song and congrats to all my fam involved in this record. #CERTIFIEDGOLD
Tech also took to Instagram to share his excitement.
Our friends at DJ Booth took the time to shed light on these achievements. The article helps both aspiring artists and hip-hop fans understand why such an achievement from an independent label is so significant. They make a great point about the current state in which we find the music industry.
“We live in a day and age where instant gratification has become more important than sustained, long-term success. The number of first week sales, song streams and YouTube views an artist racks up are the metrics that receive the most headlines, but sometimes they don’t tell the full story.”
