Even before pressing play on “GBKW (God Bless Kanye West)”, the latest release from Murs’ Captain California, you probably already have an opinion… Kanye West tends to bring them out of people. In fact that’s exactly the point of the song– how people jump to conclusions, judge and persecute without really knowing the whole story. So check your Kanye takes (whether good or bad) at the door because though his name is in the title, it’s not really about him.

West is the jumping off point, but “GBKW (God Bless Kanye West)” really tells the story of “a young black man trying to make it on his own,” one who is persecuted and judged, not just by those outside of his community, but from those in it too. Hmm, maybe it is about Kanye after all…
