A New Chapter In Lynch’s Trilogy [Editorial]

Feb 3 2011

Fans of cinema are all too familiar with the stigmas surrounding trilogies. Big movie franchises always seem to come in threes. The unfortunate fate for most of these trilogies, is that they never quite measure up. Either the original is the best or the sequels were terrible. In some rare cases, all three parts are let downs. Brotha Lynch Hung has taken on the task of delivering his own trilogy to fans, and as a fan of horror and movies altogether, Lynch recognizes the importance of a strong second act. The pressure is on to not only produce a better effort than Dinner And A Movie, but to also create a solid glue that will serve as a bridge to the final chapter in this murderous trilogy. The time has come for The Coathanga Strangla, and if Lynch has anything to say about it, things are about to get bloody.

Lynch unleashed the Coathanga Strangla on the world on Dinner And A Movie. The album laid the foundation for the morbid tale of a serial killer who strikes at night without mercy. As the album progresses, the exploits of the killer become more and more sadistic. By the shocking ending, we learn that he is more than just a serial killer, he is a criminal mastermind. The skits featured on the album create the perfect atmosphere for Lynch’s cinematic approach. As a first chapter, Dinner And A Movie helps to develop the character of the Coathanga Strangla without revealing too much. There is still an air of mystery to Lynch’s protagonist.

The Coathanga Strangla needs to raise the bar. On this second chapter, the killer must push the boundaries and take his crimes to a whole new extreme. This is the only way he can find out how far to push before his inevitable demise in the end. As the “meat” of the trilogy, The Coathanga Strangla will open the story to expand in so many new directions. This is where we see inside the mind of the killer and get more perspective on his motivation. Perhaps, the Coathanga Strangla is serving as a twisted hero of sorts. He could be serving some self righteous justice a la Dexter. Whatever his reasoning may be, this sequel should provide fans with more insight on The Coathanga Strangla.

As the only current artist on Strange Music with a concept trilogy, Brotha Lynch Hung has fans excited over his latest release. The Coathanga Strangla officially drops on April 11. As stated before, the pressure is on Lynch. The creative mind behind Dinner And A Movie, Lynch must now push his story and characters forward, all the while creating great music. Before the fall of the Coathanga Strangla comes his rise to power. Witness the creation of a monster. Witness, The Coathanga Strangla.
