It’s happened y’all. Mannibalector is out and the Coathanga Strangla trilogy has come to an end. With these three albums, Brotha Lynch Hung has proven himself to be one of the most cinematically-minded Hip Hop artists the genre has ever seen.

We also know that Brotha Lynch Hung is an avid screenwriter and loves horror movies, so we got to thinking about the possibility of Lynch directing a film.

Just think about it, one of the forefathers of horrorcore writing and directing the most insane horror movie you’ve ever seen!

After fantasizing about a Lynch-made gorefest for a while, we started thinking about other musicians that have made the transition into filmmaker status.

Here’s 5 musicians turned film makers, some of which might surprise you!

1. Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie is easily one of the best examples of a musician making the transition into filmmaker.

Zombie has achieved massive success at both crafts, and continues to push boundaries in the horror genre as only a dude named Rob Zombie could.

Before hopping behind the camera for films like House Of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, and Halloween, Rob Zombie co-founded the rock band White Zombie and later achieved solo success with his albums Hellbilly Deluxe and The Sinister Urge.

2. Ray Manzarek

Any good Strange fan knows that our label was named Strange Music because of Jim Morrison and The Doors, so it’s only right that we include Ray in this list!

Ray Manzarek co-founded and played keyboard for The Doors, and has also achieved solo success as a musician.

What you might not know is that Ray made a movie back in 2000, and it’s actually named after one of The Doors’ more popular tracks “Love Her Madly”.

Although treated harshly by critics, the film is widely appreciated by Doors fans, especially because Jim Morrison actually had a hand in writing the story for the film!

3. Master P

Nope, Master P is not just a rapper and founder of No Limit Records, one of the most influential record labels in the history of Hip Hop.

He’s also a filmmaker, and in 1997 Master P made a movie called I’m Bout It (as you can see in the picture above) starring Silkk Tha Shocker, C-Murder, Mack 10, and others.

I’m not going to say it’s a great piece of cinema, but if you liked State Property, you’ll probably dig this movie as well.

4. Ice Cube

Somewehere in between Friday and Are We There Yet?, Ice Cube decided to take a seat in the directors chair for a movie titled The Players Club.

While it’s not nearly as funny as Friday, it’s a pretty good movie actually and stars the likes of the late, great Bernie Mac and Charlie Murphy.

I mean, the dude was in N.W.A., made AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted and formed Westside Connection. We’ll watch pretty much anything he does forever.

5. RZA

How could we forget about Bobby Digital??

After having one of the most prolific and influential careers in Hip Hop history (See: Wu-Tang Clan, Gravediggaz, Force Of The Imperial Masters, etc.), RZA has gone on to star in and direct the recent box office smash The Man With The Iron Fists.

RZA is also set to co-produce a remake of The Last Dragon, reportedly with Samuel L. Jackson playing the role of Sho’Nuff. Yeah, we’re freaking out too.

Well there you have it. I don’t know about y’all, but after writing this, my head is full of fantasies involving Brotha Lynch Hung and Rob Zombie co-creating a movie.

Whether or not Brotha Lynch will take his love of movies and turn it into a career is yet to be determined, but a man can dream.
