It may be the week after release but the props keep coming for Tech N9ne’s Something Else.
OnWax Magazine put up their review for Tech N9ne’s 13th album, praising its originality and Tech N9ne’s ability to balance the sounds of mainstream and underground. The review also states that this album has the most well-rounded collection of features of an album all year.
Tech takes some interesting risk on Something Else concept wise and it all works successfully. Part of the reason comes in finding ways to bring every featured artists into his world; regardless of who he or she is. There isn’t a better example than Something Else’s “Straight Out The Gate” opening with Strange Music solider Krizz Kaliko and System of The Down vocalist Serj Tankian or the ridiculously marvelous closer “Strange 2013” with non other than The Doors. Even when getting a high level MC like Kendrick Lamar on “Fragile” (along with Kendall Morgan and ¡Mayday!), it never feels like a “run-of-the-numbers” feature. This may be the most well rounded collection of artists that one will hear this year feature wise.
