Mackenzie Nicole O’Guin may only be 11-years-old, but she has already achieved things in her life that others could only hope to accomplish in a lifetime. When the angelically voiced singer was asked what it is like being the daughter of Travis O’Guin, she replied:
“Really amazing, it’s super extraordinary, you know? Being able to say your parents co-own Strange Music”.
Upon being asked how the idea of working with Tech N9ne came about, Mackenzie says:
“Well, I have been singing forever and Tech has known me forever, and knew I sang. So one day my parents surprised me and told me Tech wanted me on an album and asked if I wanted to do it, and of course I said, ‘Heck yes!’”
Mackenzie says that she started singing as early as you could imagine. So upon being asked why she sings and how she got into it, she replied,
“I use to hum songs on the radio before I could talk and I’ve always loved music more than anything. I mean think about it–it’s the only thing you can use to express the way you feel without using words. Music has always been my little get away, you know? Whenever I am sad, mad, or just want to escape life I can grab a guitar, play the piano, or just sing–and I’m anywhere I want to be at that very moment, instantly. I have always been into music, my whole life.”
It is no secret that Mackenzie has an amazing and unique voice which all fans of Strange Music have come to know and love. Having been on songs such as “So Lonely” from Tech N9ne’s All 6’s and 7’s and “K.O.D.” from Tech N9ne’s K.O.D. album Mackenzie was asked which track she enjoyed working on the most.
“Hmm, I don’t know, the first hook I recorded and was put on was ‘Demons’. But most people don’t know it was me. ‘K.O.D.’ was my first real huge one, but I have to say ‘So Lonely’ because now I have a ton of Strange Music fans saying they totally love my voice, I have a music video coming up and it’s just this huge ordeal and it’s amazing.”
Strange Music continues to motivate, influence, and be a major part of Strange Music fans lives all over the world, and just like everybody else Mackenzie too, has been influenced, so when asked how Strange Music has affected her life, she responded,
“Wow, it’s made a world of difference. I would say it really made me different growing up, and it makes it hard to fit in sometimes. I get a lot of jealous people who have nothing to do but hate that my family is doing this or I am doing that or whatever else they can find. But I also get to do a lot that I normally wouldn’t. Like go on tour with the guys or meet Lil Wayne. Overall, it’s worth it in the end. I love Strange Music, and I wouldn’t change a thing“
Mackenzie also said she wants to continue being an artist and working with Strange and to look for her in the future, but if that doesn’t work out she wants to be a prosecuting attorney and/or an astrophysicist. “I’m flexible,” she says.
Strange Music continues to show us that it’s a family affair, whether you’re the daughter of Travis O’Guin or just an ordinary person, we are all connected as fans, all day and all night.
“Strange Music means everything to me; Tech N9ne and my parents built this out of our basement 11 years ago and it’s grown to be this big now. It’s amazing, I’m proud to be a fan of Strange Music.” – Mackenzie O’Guin
