Jay Rock Releases ‘Say Wassup’ Music Video Featuring Black Hippy

Jay Rock and Black Hippy bring fun back to hip hop with Jay Rock’s “Say Wassup” music video from his debut album Follow Me Home.

Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Schoolboy Q treat Los Angeles as their own personal playground, clowning around various locations and spitting carefree rhymes of boasting and celebration. The loose and carefree nature of the video is a refreshing change of pace from the over-serious and superficial attitude that permeates the hip hop genre of today. The protagonists in “Say Wassup” are everyday people with extraordinary talent, having fun in a way that has nothing to do with money or material possessions. The video is shot with a fish-eye lens to accentuate Black Hippy’s childish and free-spirited demeanors to great effect.

As audience members we can see ourselves in Black Hippy as they trade bars and joke like kids on the corner. One can only hope that a Black Hippy album is just around the corner, for the song and video for “Say Wassup” shows brilliant promise.
